Visit the Birthplace of Wine and Fruit in Western Michigan

Romance, nature, and some of the best wines imaginable are waiting for you at the historic Kingsley House. Located in Southwest Michigan, this exceptional destination lets you step away from the hustle-bustle of everyday life and discover a place where you can unwind, indulge, and rejuvenate. Surrounded by beautiful nature views and Michigan’s fantastic fruit belt, your stay at the Kingsley House is more than just a place to rest your head—it’s where you can learn about the region’s finest treats.

The Kingsley House is not only a premier inn for travelers to call home on their Michigan vacation; it’s connected directly to the rich history of Southwest Michigan’s fruit and wine industry. When original owner of the house, Harvey Kingsley, moved from New York to Michigan in the late 1800s, he brought apples. He built the Kingsley House in 1886 and planted the apples in the Fenn Valley area. This led to the growth of Michigan’s apple industry, and today they’re the third largest apple-growing region in the entire United States. Kingsley’s apple planting paved the way for the production of peaches and grapes as well, transforming this beautiful location into a rich destination for fruit and wines.

As partners with several local wineries, the Kingsley House offers an ideal home-base to explore this magnificent destination. Owners Chuck and Sally Pappalardo will happily assist you in planning wine tours during your stay. Stop by Fenn Valley, Tabor Hill, Round Barn, and Wyncroft Winery to learn all about their wine-making strategies and, of course, taste the wine. Some of the wineries are even a simple bike ride away from the inn so you can bask in the views on the way.

The Kingsley House’s charming accommodations, cozy gathering places, and delicious breakfast makes it a wonderful place to enjoy your Southwest Michigan vacation. Onsite you can unwind on the wrap-around porch, curl up beside one of eight fireplaces, or merely enjoy a peaceful nap in the garden hammock. All rooms feature cable television and DVD players, and a few now have Smart TVs so you can rent a movie directly or pick one up from the library and settle in for a relaxing night showing.

When you’re not taking it easy at the inn or visiting the wineries, make sure to stop by Cranes Apple Orchards or spend an afternoon hiking the beautiful Saugatuck Dunes State Park. Other area activities include horseback riding, cruises on Lake Michigan, and antiquing in the area. If you plan your getaway through October 2017, the Kingsley House offers a Fall Couple’s Tour Package that includes VIP wine tasting during your stay. It’s a great way to escape to this stunning Michigan retreat and indulge to your heart’s content!
