Uncork and Relax in Lake City

With amazing outdoor recreation and a great Main Street American flavor, Lake City offers travelers a wonderful Colorado vacation destination. Enjoy the untamed beauty and wilderness in the county, from rocky canyons of the remote Hinsdale County. The San Juan mountains of Colorado rise far above into the sky. You’ll also find a unique blend of modern times with the area’s ancient past during a trip to this fun-filled destination. As a designated National Historic District since 1978, there is plenty of history for everyone to explore, from downtown to Main Street and the beautiful wilderness just several miles out of town.

Enjoy the best of hometown America when you head to the Lake City Uncorked Wine & Music Fest. This annual celebration on September 15th kicks off the autumn season and invites visitors to enjoy plenty of good food, unique artisan gifts, musical acts, and various wines for tasting as well as a beer booth. had a chance to sit down with Kristine Borchers of the Lake City Uncorked Wine & Music Fest to talk about this exciting event.

RAL: Tell us a little bit about the event!

KB: The Lake City Uncorked Wine & Music Fest is an annual event held under the autumn leaves in historic downtown Lake City-- the most remote county in the lower 48 states!

RAL: How long has the event been running for?

KB: This year will mark the 18th year.

RAL: How many annual attendees do you draw?

KB: About 1,000 people come to the Uncorked Wine & Music Fest annually.

RAL: What demographic does your event attract?

KB: Everyone! We have a very family-friendly atmosphere.

RAL: Take me through a day in the event

KB: The gates open on a crisp, fall morning at 10:00 am! The music starts at 11:00 am and the wine starts flowing at noon. The event will last until 8:00-9:00 in the evening, drawing to a gentle close as the sun sets.

RAL: What can an attendee expect to find for local lodging?

KB: There’s plenty of unique and boutique lodging to be found, such as motor court cabins built in the 1940s, and restored Victorian houses from the late 1800’s -- plus, plenty of camping. It’s always a good idea to book early, as the town sells out for the weekend.

RAL: What does the event mean to the community?

KB: This is our last big hoorah before winter sets in, and it’s a lovely community-based event, from the homemade food in the Green Room to our Mayor welcoming the crowd, and the fan favorite clog dancers! The event is inviting to everyone in Lake City, because when you’re in Lake City, you’re home.

RAL: Why should folks come to the event?

KB: Spending time in Lake City-- whether during the festival or during another fun summer event-- is like going back in time. There are boardwalks and a Soda Fountain and frisbee-throwing in the park. The pace here is slower, the air is cleaner… it’s hometown America at its best, and we love to share it with everyone!
