While in D.C., don’t forget to check out the amazing Washington Antiquarian Book Fair, happening September 28 - 29. A wonderful event that celebrates rare books, find the title that you’ve sought for years and years, plenty of unique literature choices as well as rare first editions of classics. ResortsandLodges.com had a chance to sit down with the director of the Washington Antiquarian Book Fair, Beth Campbell, to learn more about this amazing event.

RAL: Tell us a little about this event.

BC: The event has been going on for 43 years! We draw in hundreds of guests over the two days. We see plenty of families, children, and young professionals as well as students of literature history who come to see all of the books we have.

RAL: What makes this event unique?

BC: 60 booksellers from the Midwest & East Coast have been bringing their curated rare and unusual collectable books, maps, prints and ephemera to the WABF for over 40 years.

RAL: Take me through a day at the event. What can I expect as an attendee?

BC: There will be some cute events, such as custom Haikus written “on demand” by the Haiku Gals, and book binding demonstrations by the Cat Tail Run Book Binding. We’re like a rare library that encourages you to touch and converse!

RAL: Why should people come to your event?

BC: Washington Antiquarian Book Fair is the D.C. region’s only curated festival of rare and collectible books, manuscripts, autographs, maps, drawings and other fine ephemera. You don’t have to be a veteran collector or millionaire to enjoy the fair. It’s been described as an active museum and a forum to access diverse knowledge gathered in one place. The fair is all about connectedness and discovery, as the exhibitors are connected to their collections, each other, and the fairgoers. We all discover more when we connect and converse with one another.
