Das Best Oktoberfest has been one of the leading October and Bavarian celebrations in the region for nearly two decades, and it will take place October 13 at the M&T Bank Stadium lots. This year’s event will feature more than 150 beers, wines, and schnapps from domestic and international producers. Oompah bands and regional musicians will perform live throughout the event, adding to the event’s unique beer hall vibe. Attendees can buy a variety of Bavarian meals and snacks including bratwurst, sauerkraut, and more. From stein holding competitions to costume contests, the event offers a spectrum of fun contests for all tastes. Patrons who purchase a VIP ticket will also have access to the Baltimore Beer Week Opening Tap Celebration, which is an exclusive tasting party where beer drinkers can meet Maryland brewmasters and special guests. A portion of the event's proceeds will go to the Spirit of Hope Children’s Foundation, a nonprofit that provides support and education to children and adults with mental or physical disabilities. RAL: How long has the event been running?
GN: This is the 18th year of the event.
RAL: What is the typical demographic makeup of the event? Children? Families? Couples?
GN: This is the ideal event for anyone that likes having a good time, trying new beers and spirits, and German culture enthusiasts. The event is geared for young professionals, not necessarily for kids.
RAL: What makes this event unique?
GN: The way we incorporated German culture into such a large celebration. Attendees can take part in a Fingerhakeln competition on the main stage, a beer stein holding contest, and of course, drinking German beers.
RAL: Take me through a day at the event. What can I expect as an attendee?
GN: Attendees can sample more than 150 beers, schnapps, and wines. We have live music ranging from oompah bands to cover bands. There will also be a variety of contests including The Annual Fingerhalken competition on the main stage, Miss Oktoberfest contest, Maskruggstemmen, Costume Contests, and more.
RAL: What dining options will attendees encounter?
GN: People can purchase a variety of German foods, beverages, and snacks from onsite vendors.
RAL: Tell us about the overall environment.
GN: It’s festive and fun! It’s almost like being transported to Germany with all the authentic foods, beers, and live entertainment.
RAL: What does this event mean to the community?
GN: We’ve never done any impact study on the economy, but we bring a lot of people to town for this event. We get a lot of visitors from New York and New Jersey for this event.
RAL: Does the event support a particular cause in the community?
GN: A portion of the proceeds from the event will go to the Spirit of Hope Children’s Foundation.
