A Can't-Miss Patriotic Salute to American Independence in America's Golden Door

Embracing its urban sophistication and rich history, Jersey City is a destination that offers a spectrum of things to do for any traveler. The city's proximity to Ellis Island made it a home for people from across the planet. This multicultural influence is apparent in the city’s variety of cuisine. With dining options ranging from Korean to Cuban, people will fall head over heels for restaurants like Razza, Piggyback Bar, and Light Horse Tavern. Those visiting with the entire family will find a healthy selection of museums, attractions, and historic sites. Make sure to stop by the Liberty Science Center, which features a 300,000 square feet floor plan packed with exhibits, live animals, aquariums, 3D theater, and more.

The Jersey City Freedom and Fireworks Festival has been a go-to Independence Day celebration for tens of thousands of people in the region for the past five years, and it will take place July 4th at Exchange Place. Attendees will encounter the largest Independence Day celebration in New Jersey complete with live music, amusement rides, foods, refreshments, and a massive fireworks display. Local and national music acts will perform live throughout the event, with Snoop Dogg as the headliner. People attending with kids will love the Kid’s Zone. Here kids will have the chance to partake in a variety of fun carnival themed activities and rides such as the Super Slide, Ferris Wheel, Tea Cups, and more. Foodies and hungry patrons alike will find food options for every taste including meals and snacks by favorite local vendors such as Coney Island Pizza, The Tasty Trolley, and Cafe Gallo. This year’s fireworks display by Grucci promises to be bigger and better than ever, and it begins right after sunset. ResortsandLodges.com interviewed Press Secretary Hannah Peterson, to learn more about this unique celebration of American freedom.

RAL: Tell me a little bit about the event.

HP: It's the biggest July 4th celebration in New Jersey with the best view in the world! The event takes place along the Hudson River, with the beautiful backdrop of the NYC skyline. Freedom and Fireworks is an all-day celebration for the whole family, filled with food, fun, and music.

RAL: How long has the event been running?

HP: This event was started five years ago by Mayor Fulop as a way to bring fireworks back to the residents of Jersey City and northern New Jersey, after the Macy’s firework display was relocated to the East River.

RAL: How many annual attendees do you draw?

HP: We expect more than 150,000 attendees.

RAL: What demographic does your event attract? Children? Families? Couples?

HP: We have something for everyone. There are carnival rides for kids, bounce houses for toddlers, food trucks and beer gardens for adults, and all-day entertainment for the entire family.

RAL: What makes this event unique?

HP: Our music stage featuring top-notch entertainment and a stunning fireworks display presented by Grucci, the first family of fireworks! The event will include a full-day roster of local and national musicians, celebrating the talent of this great country. Past headliners have included the Village People and Kool & the Gang, both of whom have deep ties to Jersey City itself. PLUS, the famed pyrotechnic artisans, Grucci, put on a beautiful fireworks display from two barges in the Hudson River. The fireworks performance is choreographed to music played from the center stage.

RAL: What dining options will attendees encounter?

HP: There will be a Food Truck Alley, pop-up beer gardens, and outdoor picnic tables. Participating vendors will serve mouth-watering American and international cuisine, catering to every palate.

RAL: Tell us about the overall atmosphere?

HP: It's an all-day event with something for everyone! The atmosphere is fun and relaxed, and attendees are encouraged to enjoy the day and check out all there is to offer!

RAL: What can an attendee expect to find for local lodging?

HP: There are many hotels options right on the waterfront for out of town guests who want a great location and views of the Hudson River. The festival is conveniently located near all public transportation options.

RAL: What does this event mean to the community?

HP: Jersey City is the most culturally diverse city in the nation, with all of our people living and working together in the second largest city in New Jersey. We find unity and harmony in our community and celebrate our independence as a nation and people together from one of the most historically relevant and exciting cities in the country.

RAL: Does this drive business to your local economy?

HP: Absolutely! Jersey City reaches out to local food trucks and food vendors to participate and cuisine at the Festival. Additionally, businesses in the downtown area benefit from the crowds drawn from all over the region, who take to the streets enjoying what retailers and other companies have to offer.

RAL: Why should people come to your event?

HP: Each year, we strive for a bigger and better festival, one that brings in more spectators from throughout the City and region to enjoy a truly unique celebration on our waterfront. This year will be our best year yet and is sure to be a memorable time for all of our attendees and families. With a view of Manhattan that you cannot get anywhere else, as well as a clear view of the Statue of Liberty, this is indeed the perfect place to celebrate our nation, with entertainment and fun for the entire family.
