If it has to do with the outdoors – specifically the Lakes area of Texas’ Piney Woods region – you can do it at Rayburn Country Resort. Of course, that range of activities includes golf, and Rayburn Country Resort offers that in the same great measure that it offers everything else.

That means a 27-hole championship golf course, featuring three sets of nines designed by the likes of Jay Riviere, Robert Von Hagge and Robert Trent Jones. Named in fitting fashion for this region – Gold, Blue and Green – these courses promise a tremendous Texas golf vacation with widely varied green sizes, doglegs and water hazards among the tall pines of east Texas. If this seems unforgettable, it gets even better a the recently-renovated Rayburn Lodge and the two restaurants at Rayburn Country Club. That’s not to mention the onsite tennis and basketball courts, plus the seasonal 25-meter pool and sports core with billiards, ping pong and miniature golf. Big-hearted service, awe-inspiring views, and spectacular golf- these are just three of the principles Tapatio was founded on, and continues to operate on today. But it's the course itself that draws crowds from all over the country. Course architect Tripp Davis' course is filled with sneaky bunkers, wide fairways, and multiple tee boxes. After your round, head over to the new La Cascada Table and Bar for a cocktail and some shade!

We’d expect golf to be popular in the Austin, TX area – the entire city is booming and eclectic for any kind of Texas vacation – but we didn’t expect a Texas golf resort like this. The Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort and Spa is a dressed-down Four Diamond getaway, on the links and off.

Scenery? You’ve got it, especially at the Wolfdancer Golf Club. The prairie, plains and the woods are all part of the picture here, as well as plenty of the wildflowers that are a hallmark of the entire Texas Hill Country. The practice area alone occupies 13 acres, and the course itself is 7,205 yards of tricky par 3s, 580-plus-yard par 5s and, along the finishing holes, the stunning Colorado River which is likely to slow down your game some. As a reminder that this is Texas, the 491-room Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort and Spa also features an equestrian center and tennis courts, plus a variety of planned family activities that highlight the irreplaceable natural surroundings. And the Spa Django is based upon the plant life and energy found here in the Austin area.

We’ve always heard that good things come in threes, and as far as a Texas golf vacation we were proven right at Horseshoe Bay Resort. We’re talking about Slick Rock, Ram Rock and Apple Rock – three championship golf courses, all designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr.

That’s a winning combination for golf, any way you look at it. Horseshoe Bay has been ranked, even by Jones himself, as among the top one percent of golf courses in the United States. Ram Rock, the second of the three courses, is known as the “Challenger” for its multitude of water hazards, elevation changes, deep bunkers and natural dry creeks. Apple Rock was completed in 1986 and hugs the shores of Lake LBJ. And the venerable Slick Rock combines a variety of landscapes for an unforgettable day on the links. This is all part of the overall experience at Horseshoe Bay Resort, which is itself world-class with luxury hotel and waterfront villa accommodations. The resort proudly features a full-service spa, a full marina, a tennis complex for adults and children and swimming pools that will make you wonder where you’ve arrived – if only briefly, because you’ll only want to be here.

The Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa is what a Texas ranch would look like if today’s resort developers had been around in the 1800s. Which they weren’t, but the Wiseman-Rogers family, who owned and ranched this land near San Antonio for over a century, certainly was.

The resort rests on more than 200 acres of the original ranch land, a blend of authentic ranch experience and pure modern bliss. Which leads us to golf – the Hill Country Golf Club features 27 holes of hills, meadows, ravines and plateaus that highlight the famous area near San Antonio. It’s arranged in three nine-hole, par 36 courses: The Oaks, The Creeks and The Lakes. All were designed by the renowned Arthur Hills architectural firm to accent the natural landscapes. In case of emergency, the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa also has a four-acre waterpark, a fitness center and a range of outdoor sports courts. Each of its 500 AAA Four-Diamond guestrooms recall the classic ranch houses of early San Antonio, right down to the artwork and the Texas silk used in the comforters.

If you think of a golf vacation as a visit to a place completely different than where you are, then Tanglewood Resort and Conference Center is just for you. It’s barely an hour north of Dallas, but spend a day on its golf course and you’ll know you’re in a world all your own.

Seven thousand yards of Arnold Palmer/Ralph Plummer-designed heaven await you at Tanglewood Resort, along the sparkling Lake Texoma and highlighted by the pro shop and the new hotel tower. Maybe the coolest thing about golf at Tanglewood is that the greens are covered in soyzia – a new grass that requires less water and fertilizer but offers the same putting experience as bent grass. Tanglewood is also a terrific location for Texas conferences, combining golf with 12,000 sq. ft. of conference and banquet space. The conference center connects to the hotel via a 30-ft. skyway, and all of this rests on the shore of Lake Texoma with a variety of watersports including guided striper fishing tours.

Highlights

The Tranquility Spa is the newest facility at Tanglewood Resort and Conference Center, offering massage therapy, body treatments, manicures, pedicures and more.
