Bayview Wildwood Resort enters our frosty list of Top 10 Ontario Winter Vacations on a friendly family note – after all, isn’t that what the holidays are all about? This traditional Muskoka must-stay has been bringing relatives together for nearly 110 years, and doesn’t plan on stopping anytime soon!

While Bayview Wildwood Resort’s oh-so-homey guestrooms, suites and cottages will help you shed your worldly worries in no time, the family-oriented activities are what really make this Ontario resort stand out. Situated on Sparrow Lake, the waterside retreat is rife with both warm and cold weather merrymaking. It was voted "One of the Best Summer Family Vacation Spots" by Today's Parent magazine for several years running. We’re just wondering now when the awards will come for Bayview’s winter festivities! Guided snowmobile tours over the frozen terrain, cross-country skiing among the powdered Muskoka forests and clomping along resort trails on new-age aluminum snowshoes are just some of the wintry endeavors you can take part in here. We highly recommend a day of tobogganing or a rousing game of broomball to get your Ontario vacation started!

While we know there’s more than one JW Marriot resort out there, our No. 2 pick boasts that The Rosseau is the first of its kind, and surprisingly, we’d have to agree. No high-rise hotels here; just quaint, American Cape Cod-style architecture that welcomes you warmly to take a load off in Muskoka Lakes.

Overlooking the deep, azure waters of Lake Rosseau, The Rosseau – the first JW Marriott hotel in Ontario – sits atop a 100-ft. granite bluff in the pretty resort community of Red Leaves. Unpretentious through and through, you’d initially think the chandeliered Muskoka Room and the sumptuous Spa Rosseau were meant only for the elite. Sophistication doesn’t always have to come with a hefty price tag, however. The real reason we thought The Rosseau was an ideal candidate for our list of Top 10 Ontario Winter Vacations has less to do with the marble bathrooms, featherbeds and stone fireplaces and more to do with the exhilarating winter pursuits Red Leaves has to offer. Here, you can venture along winding resort pathways by snowshoe, cross-country ski by moonlight or even go on a snowmobile wilderness safari over more than 1,200 miles of meticulously-groomed trails. Ice fishing fan? You’ll like it, too!
