You’d never guess the hotel in our No. 9 spot was once the former site of a Holiday Inn. In fact, you’d be hard-pressed to find any traces of corporate roots inside Hotel PUR. Set in the up-and-coming St. Roch neighborhood, this is one Quebec boutique hotel that is miles from ordinary. We think it’s PUR genius.

Here, standard windows have been replaced with floor-to-ceiling panels that perfectly frame the neo-Gothic designs of Quebec’s famed Saint Roch Church, and the blasé corporate hotel décor has been updated with a monochromatic color scheme that showcases Hotel PUR’s sophisticated take on what we like to call “boutique chic.” And no comforts were sacrificed to achieve Hotel PUR’s high-style appearance. In fact, we think upscale add-ons like wall-mounted TVs, iPod docks and Japanese deep soak tubs only add to the urban-chic ambience. And just beyond Hotel PUR’s sleek, tower-like exterior? From Quebec Airport, head south on Rue Principale toward 6e Avenue de l’Aeroport and turn right. Continue on Autoroute Duplessis. Take Exit 3-E for Autoroute 40 E toward Autoroute 440. Merge onto Autoroute 40/Autoroute Felix-Leclerc. Continue on Autoroute Charest. Turn left at Rue de la Couronne and proceed to Hotel PUR on your right.
