This historic West Virginia inn is actually set on the site of an 1862 Civil War battle!

There’s plenty of history to be discovered and new memories to be made here in West Virginia’s breathtaking Greenbrier Valley. We recommend starting with the General Lewis Inn’s very-own Memory Hall, a memorable display of household items, musical instruments and firearms once used by the region’s early mountain pioneers. The inn’s manicured grounds are even home to an antique stage coach with its own ripe past of transporting the likes of presidents and other dignitaries to West Virginia’s early mineral spring spa resorts. Inside the General Lewis guestrooms, lace canopied beds, braided rugs and the occasional American flag pay homage to the inn’s historic roots. And you’ll find a full menu of breakfast, lunch and dinner offerings that pay tribute to West Virginia’s natural bounty, from homemade breads and desserts that feature regional ingredients to West Virginia rainbow trout, in the onsite restaurant. You can even enjoy the same views of the West Virginia countryside as some of the inn’s first guests did way back in 1834.

The term “sleep tight” really applies here, since most of the General Lewis Inn’s beds are 100 years old or older. Rope construction kept the bedrails securely in place for a better and more comfortable mattress.

The General Lewis Inn is conveniently located near the Greenbrier Valley Airport, which is just 2.5 miles north of Lewisburg. Other larger airports are located in Roanoke, Virginia and Charleston, West Virginia.

The Berkeley Castle, Museum of Berkeley Springs and a wide range of antique dealers can be enjoyed in this historic town, but it was the luxurious Berkeley Springs and Bath day spas that caught our undivided attention. Once on US-19 South follow the signs to Stonewall Resort State Park. The entrance will be on your left approximately 2.5 miles from the interstate.
