Whatever month you visit, there's bound to be something teeming in Kodiak Sportsman's Lodge's waters!

May through June is the “Trophy King” season, as most guests come to catch the 50 pound plus King Salmons, famous for their succulence. July is host to a plethora of species, from King Salmon and Halibut to Yellow Eye and Black Bass. Of course, the weather is simply superb in the summer months as well! The Silver Salmon come around in August, weighing an average of 15 pounds. Finally, September finishes off the season with superb fly fishing and some of the greatest fall colors anywhere!

Getting there

You will fly commercially into the city of Kodiak Alaska at your expense. Typical 5 day 6 night clients will be picked up in Kodiak on the Sunday of their arrival at approximately 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM for transport to Port Lions Lodge.

A list of the catchable fish reads like any salmon fisherman's dream. Silver (Coho), Red (Sockeye), Pink (Humpy) and Chum (Dog) Salmon are all plentiful and, if we may say so ourselves, delicious. You'll fish the Saltery River, Ugak Bay and Saltery Lake, each so beautiful that you won't even mind if you don't catch a thing. But don't worry- you certainly will! Vacationing is about trying new things- why not try your hand at fly fishing at Whale Pass Lodge?

Normal rod and reel fishing is, of course, just as popular here, but to truly take advantage of Whale Pass Lodge's wealth of surrounding streams, you gotta throw on some overalls and wade out into the shallows! The knowledgeable staff can coach you in the ways of the fly, so don't worry if you're totally inexperienced. It's the best way to wrangle some Red Salmon (in June), Pink Salmon (in July), and Silver Salmon (in August and September). You'll have to provide your own gear, but believe us when we tell you- it's worth it!
