The ranch dates back to the Texas oil and gas industry boom of the early 1900s which brought many businessmen to the Hill Country area. In 1929, it was one of these such businessmen, Odie R. Seagraves, who bought the 6,500 acres of what is now Mo-Ranch. Seagraves originally had a Manor House constructed for his family and he had the river dammed to make a small lake. In 1936, Seagraves sold the ranch to Daniel J. Moran, another local oilman, who renamed the estate "Mo-Ranch." Moran transformed the property by adding new structures and amenities and welcoming all kinds of travelers to enjoy an exciting vacation experience. Today, the ranch is owned by the Presbyterian Synod of Texas, who have over the past 65 years of ownership, have expanded the property by adding more buildings but continuing to maintain the original mission of the resort as a place where travelers can escape, unwind, and relax beside a wonderful river.
