The First Gold Hotel is located on the site of the first gold discovery in Deadwood Gulch in 1875. It was that discovery that set the wheels of history in motion, and brought such notables as James "Wild Bill" Hickok and Calamity Jane to the area. In fact, it's located just blocks from where Hickok was shot while playing his last hand of poker.
