That's next to the Sunriver Observatory with many telescopes, and charming docents to tell you what you're viewing. Hot springs and waterfalls are less than 30 minutes away. Oregon's treasure, Crater Lake, is just over an hour drive. With no traffic or streetlights in this rural subdivision, enjoy the breeze in the trees and see the Milky Way. World-Class Mt. Bachelor Ski Resort is just a half hour drive, on paved, plowed roads. Their snow-making equipment makes the season longer and the slopes fresh and speedy. Snowboarders have special areas and there's a tubing hill and sled dog rides for super family fun. Cross-country skiing is heavenly at Bachelor's Nordic Center with groomed trails. Edison Snow Park for cross country is even closer. You can rent equipment at Bachelor or in Sunriver.

Don't leave your four-legged family behind! DiamondStone Lodges are pet-friendly for a reasonable $12/night/dog. (Cheaper than a kennel). Pet policy is: clean up poops, dispose in outside trash. Keep pets off of beds and furniture, and don't let them run loose or leave them alone in home.

The High Desert Museum is less than 30 minutes from DiamondStone. One of the finest museums in the Northwest, they teach Native American and Oregon Trail history, and also have wild animal exhibits with mammals and birds of prey. It is so large that you can't see it all in a day, so they give you a two-day pass. There's a nice restaurant too!
