A winding, tree-lined road gives way to a stunning mountain house, brightly lit in the early evening. Like a rosy lantern leading the way forward, you find yourself at Bent Creek Lodge, tucked away in a forested triangle between the Blue Ridge Parkway and the French Broad River just below Asheville. Hike secluded trails out your bedroom door; within a half mile you can start your drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway, visit the North Carolina Arboretum, or launch a canoe on the French Broad River to float by the Biltmore Estate. Yet you’re only a short drive to the fine restaurants, galleries, and shops in downtown Asheville.

From whitewater rafting on the French Broad River to fly fishing for native brook trout on a mountains stream, the Asheville area offers lots of fun on the water. Boat private trout waters for trophy-sized fish with Davidson River Outfitters, or go on a family whitewater adventure from the Nantahala Outdoor Center, one of the originators of whitewater rafting taking trips on the French Broad, among others.

Each sunny day, whether among the blooms of spring or the powdered-sugar crust of winter, makes you want to get out and see it from a hiking trail, a mountain bike, a whitewater raft or even hanging from a zip line. And it is not just the mountains; Asheville itself is always bustling with festivals, art shows, music and dance. The mountains are celebrating, and you’re invited!

The Lodge itself is warm and inviting with all the comforts and amenities you would expect in a recently built inn. You can stay connected with WiFi throughout the lodge and also enjoy the romantic beauty of a flickering fire in the great room or the solitude on one of the large decks overlooking the mountains and the beautiful gardens filled with blooms, birds and butterflies. The ten distinctively decorated guest rooms are inviting with well-appointed baths and amazingly comfortable beds.
