Garnet Hill Lodge has a rich history that dates back to 1893, when Frank Hooper opened a garnet mine near the site of the lodge today. The mine settlement soon turned into an incredible community that featured a store, school, blacksmith, boarding house, and private homes. By 1928, the garnet supply was depleted and the mine closed down. In 1937, the Garnet Hill Lodge's loghouse was built for Hooper's son-in-law as a guest house and restaurant, and in 1970, the loghouse was purchased by Paul and Nancy Cormack. The Cormacks ran the loghouse as a classic Adirondacks inn for the following years, even expanding the original building and adding two more buildings for guest accommodations. Today, you can stay at the lodge and discover some of the original traits of the original building, including the large stone fireplace!
