To visit Katahdin Lake Wilderness Camps is to step back to a more quiet, peaceful time. Hike surrounding trails, canoe or kayak on the lake, fish for native brook trout, observe the large variety of wildlife, or just relax on the sandy beach in front of camp. Katahdin Lake Wilderness Camps was designed and built in 1885 to provide individuals with a quiet, scenic place to relax and enjoy the beauty of nature in whatever way they choose.

The Katahdin Lake area has short hikes to Painters Beach, Rocky Pond, and Pitcher Plant Pond. Somewhat longer hikes include the Martin Pond loop trail and the North Katahdin Lake Trail. Or, grab a paddle and explore Katahdin Lake with either a camp canoe or kayak. The views are breathtaking and there is always the possibility of seeing wildlife on the lake or shore!
The view of Katahdin is what truly makes Katahdin Lake stand above all other wilderness waters in Maine. Arranged in a panorama of peaks, valleys, and basins, the entire eastern massif of the Katahdin Range is visible. Just to the north lie the Turner Mountains and in the distance stands the Traveler. It is no wonder that Governor Percival Baxter envisioned the lake as the "crown jewel'" of the Katahdin region.
Built on a bluff, overlooking beautiful Katahdin Lake, the camps consist of a main cabin, where all meals are served, and ten guest cabins. The camps vary in size, from the smallest " Traveler " to the largest, the “Purgatory Lodge.” All the cabins have wood stoves, propane lights, and large coolers. Wood , drinking water, and ice are provided throughout your stay at no additional charge.
