The old tower of Houstoun House stands aside from the rush of the 20th century. It was built by Sir John Shairp, advocate to Mary Queen of Scots. Sympathetic additions and improvements have been made since then, yet the hotel retains all the character of a 17th century laird's house. Houstoun House stands in its own 20 acres of gardens and woodland, providing delightful walks.
