The Superior National Hiking Trail takes you to the most fascinating spots in the area. Considered to be the "Appalachian Trail of the Midwest" by the Chicago Tribune, the 205-mile trail winds along the rugged ridges overlooking Lake Superior. It makes its start at Two Harbors and reaches up to the Canadian border, offering up-close and personal sights and sounds of the majestic area. The trail was also included on Backpacker Magazine's "10 Prime Trails That Leave All Others in the Dust," so you're truly guaranteed an experience unlike any other.
"This year we’ve added several new guided hikes to our winter activities line-up, including hikes with various levels of difficulty from beginner to rigorous outdoor enthusiast," said Han Taylor, Bluefin Bay Activities Director. "All of these hikes will help guests further explore the Superior Hiking Trail and the extensive effort to build and maintain this fantastic Minnesota gem!"
Try out the Dyer's Creek Hike that takes you through lush Balsam/Spruce trees and over a 40-foot A-frame bridge across Dyer's Creek. Or head out on the Wilderness Bonfire Adventure Hike, which begins at Sugar Loaf and ends at Caribou Falls. In the middle of your trip, you'll get to stop at Crystal Creek for a bonfire, s'mores, and hot chocolate! The frosty white landscape offers a truly different hiking experience and you can choose from a variety of winter hikes.
Other popular hikes include Carlton Peak, which offers wonderful views of the surrounding Temperance River Valley and Lake Superior. In the warmer months, you'll discover wildflowers along the way as well as the lush green forests of the Temperance River State Park. Bask in the vibrant autumn colors when hiking the Oberg Mountain Trail in the fall; the trip lets you breathe in crisp natural air from the top of the mountain and enjoy views of Oberg Lake, Lake Superior, and the Superior National Forest.
"Our guests continually tell us how much they love hiking from the Bluefin Bay Family of Resorts, whether they join one of our guided hikes or venture out on their own," said Taylor. "Hiking is something anyone can do and exploring nature with the breathtaking views of Lake Superior and the Superior National Forest can't be beat."
