A Historic Golf Getaway on Lake Champlain

Golf vacations come in all shapes and sizes. You can stay in popular Myrtle Beach and be minutes from over hundreds of local courses, or you can vacation somewhere with a golf course nearby, where you can spend an afternoon when you need a break from everything else.

Then there are the golf vacations that bring every other aspect of your vacation together—the beautiful scenery, the comfortable lodging, and of course, the fantastic golf — all onsite. If this is the kind of experience you’re looking for, then you’ve found it at Bluff Point Golf Resort.

Located on the beautiful shores of Lake Champlain in New York, Bluff Point Golf Resort is more than a golf getaway. It’s a rich and historic destination with over 127 years of welcoming guests to unwind and make memories that last a lifetime. Built in 1890, Bluff Point started as part of the Hotel Champlain, an impressive 500-room, Victorian-style landmark that quickly became the grandest hotel in America. With over 1,000 acres of land, a white sandy beach along the lake complete with boathouse, boardwalk, and even a steamboat dock, Hotel Champlain catered to the most affluent guests of the time. By 1987, families such as the Astors and Vanderbilts stayed here -- some even vacationed the whole summer.

The hotel’s most notable feature was its golf course. Designed by architect A. W. Tillinghast, the course was the third golf course ever constructed in America, and the first course built at a resort. Guests have long since enjoyed spending their afternoons across the sloping greens and basking in the lake views as they played. President William McKinley, who used the hotel as his summer White House in 1897 and 1899, was often seen reading for hours under a pine tree at the course’s 18th hole. The course was visited by other notable presidents such as Teddy Roosevelt and William Taft, along with golf legends Walter Hagen, Gene Sarazen, and Joe Kirkwood, and even baseball player Babe Ruth.

Today, the historic Hotel Champlain has transformed into the Clinton Community College, and Bluff Point Golf Resort continues on the traditions of a great lake and golf retreat. Your vacation here includes a stay in Adirondack Style Cottages or Suites located out in the course between the 4th and 6th fairways, as well as use of your own golf cart to use as transportation around the resort.

Relax on the porch of your cottage and enjoy the views, drive down to the beach where you can rent a kayak or canoe to explore the lake, or catch a soothing nap in a hammock. Your lodging features picnic tables and a fire pit where you can gather around at the end of the day and bask in the starry night skies.

Bluff Point is located just minutes from downtown Plattsburgh, where you will find wide array of delicious dining options from bistros to wine bars, and Mexican restaurants to Himalayan establishments, plus everything in between. Plattsburgh has become a foodie destination and has it all!

Whether you’re here with family, friends, or your sweetheart, Bluff Point Golf Resort welcomes you to experience a golf vacation unlike any other. With the stunning lake views, beach, and enjoyable golf, you will understand why this historic golf retreat has continued to be a popular golf destination.
